CALL FOR PAPERS - Special issue “Sustainable management of water resources: potential of the agricultural sector for environmental protection”

The Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA) of the Italian Ministry of agricultural food, forestry and tourism policies (MIPAAFT) has been collaborating with the journal "Agro-Food Economics/Food Economy", a peer-reviewed academic journal dealing with socio-economic, political, legal and technical issues related to agriculture and food systems.

Call for Participation and Abstracts WATER in the MENA Region: Preparing for a Changing World – 2-4th February 2020, Manama - Bahrain

The 2020 Conference WATER in the MENA Region: Preparing for a Changing World aims to bring together leading professionals, specialists, practitioners and researchers involved in various aspects of water resources management with a distinct focus on the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA Region). The conference will encourage and facilitate the exchange of experiences, research findings and lessons learned from exemplary case studies.

EWA has got a new President!

The European Water Association (EWA) Council Meeting, held on 8th May 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark, saw the election of a new EWA President, a new Vice President and the election of 3 new Management Committee members.

Workshop in International Cooperation, 25th June 2019 (Paris, France)

As part of its supporting Coordination and Support Action IC4Water, the Water JPI is looking at opportu-nities to develop a common strategy for international cooperation with other European initiatives. IC4WATER was launched in January 2017 and is funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020. IC4WATER aims to implement joint activities in a dedicated effort to reinforce international cooper-ation in research, development and innovation to address global water challenges.

Knowledge Hub and new policy brief on CECs

The Water JPI is proud to announce the publication of a second policy brief on Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs). The paper was produced as a result of the collaboration between international researchers involved in the first Water JPI Knowledge Hub on CECs (Water JPI SRIA Theme 2). The policy brief is entitled “Contaminants of Emerging Concern – an emerging risk in our waters”.

AquaticPollutants – Project Proposal is accepted by the European Commission

In February, the Water JPI submitted a proposal for a new ERA-Net Cofund action under the H2020 Societal Challenge 5 (Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials) for the Work Programme 2018 to 2019. The three Joint Programming Initiatives (JPIs) on Water, Oceans and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) worked together to develop the proposal called ‘AquaticPollutants’ under the topic 'Risks posed to human health and the environment by pollutants and pathogens present in water resources'.

Water JPI Stare Project present the first Trans-Europe surveillance on antibiotic resistance in wastewater treatment plants

In a recent study published on Science Advances the team of the Water JPI project - StARE, led by the coordinator Célia Manaia, presented the results of a pioneering European study on the antibiotic resistance prevalence in urban wastewater treatment plants (UWTPs) in seven European countries (Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Cyprus, Germany, Finland and Norway) and 12 municipal WWTPs.

Water JPI Procedure Request for Extension of Project Duration

This procedure is intended for principal investigators involved with the Research, Development and Innovation projects funded in the Water JPI Joint Transnational Calls under the Water JPI funding instruments (WaterWorks2014, WaterWorks2015, IC4Water, WaterWorks2017 and subsequent) who wish to request an extension of their project duration.

Countries Supported on Drought through Global Initiative

The Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) – a joint initiative of GWP and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) – is providing targeted drought management support to 8 countries: Ethiopia, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Benin, Niger, Serbia, Macedonia, and Moldova as part of the UNCCD Drought Initiative.
