This high-level event is jointly organised by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and the European Commission, in the frame of the G7 Science and Technology 2024 and the HE Mission "Restore our Ocean and waters".

The event focuses on advancing the monitoring, restoration, and regeneration of seas, oceans, and coastal areas, emphasizing the shift from research and innovation to practical local deployment, including through the development of the Digital Twin of the Ocean. It will highlight global efforts and innovative solutions to restore marine biodiversity and ecosystems, improve climate mitigation and adaptation at the climate-ocean nexus, and strengthen the resilience of coastal communities against the growing threats of severe weather events, storms, hurricanes, ice melting, and rising sea levels. Additionally, it will address the resilience and security of water systems at the land-sea interface, particularly in the face of extreme climate events like droughts and floods. Strategic mobilization initiatives involving G7 countries will be featured, with a particular focus on the EU Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030’. The event will also spotlight collaborative efforts such as the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance, and the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA). These discussions and showcases aim to foster a sustainable and resilient future for marine and coastal ecosystems through coordinated international efforts.
