The Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity's demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.

The Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity's demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. According to the Global Footprint Network, this day was the 29th of July in 2019. In 2018, the Earth Overshoot Day was the 1st August 2018 – 3 days later than this year. Thirty years ago, the Earth Overshoot Day fell in October, while ten years ago, it was at the end of September. The Global Footprint Network is an international research organization that monitors the ecological footprint of humans, which has estimated that on average, the entire world will consume 1.75 planets in 2019. “We have one Earth only, we cannot use resources equal to 1.75 planets without consequences", said Mathis Wackernagel, co-inventor of the ecological footprint accounting and the Global footprint network founder. "Companies and Countries that understand and manage the reality of operating in a global context are in a much better position to face the challenges of the 21st century."
