The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VARAM) of the Republic of Latvia is responsible for developing and implementing policy in three areas - environmental protection, regional development, as well as information and communication technologies.

In the area of environmental protection, the Ministry deals with the establishment of prerequisites and conditions for nature conservation, clean environment and ensures that natural resources, including waters, are used effectively and in sustainable manner.
