Members and Partnership

The international cooperation dimension of the first implementation actions of the Water JPI included Israel, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, South Africa, Tunisia, and Turkey (Water JPI members), as well as eight additional countries associated in joint actions: Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Lithuania, Morocco, Slovakia, and Taiwan.

Since its formation, the Water JPI has brought together a diverse group of countries to address critical water challenges collaboratively. Over the years, its membership has grown and evolved, reflecting the initiative’s commitment to fostering partnerships that amplify research and innovation efforts.

As of 2024, the Water JPI included 18 full Member Countries, 6 Associated Partners, and 4 Observers accounting for 88% of all European public RDI annual expenditure on water issues, showcasing the collective commitment to advancing sustainable water systems.

This collaborative framework has been one of Water JPI’s key strengths, enabling the successful implementation of joint transnational calls since its approval by European Member States in December 2011. These calls have leveraged the expertise, resources, and dedication of its members to address pressing water challenges effectively.
Through these partnerships, Water JPI demonstrated how collective action and a shared vision can create meaningful progress in water research and innovation, leaving a legacy of impactful collaboration and sustainable solutions.
