2018 Joint Call webinar on 12 March 2018


A webinar with a live stream presentation of the Water JPI 2018 Joint Call is scheduled on Monday 12 March 2018, in order to present the scope of the call, research topics, and guidelines for applicants. The presentation will be organised by the Joint Call Secretariat (FORMAS, Sweden) with the collaboration of the Coordination Team of WaterWorks2017 (ANR, France).
There will be two sessions:

Webinar A at 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM CET
Webinar B at 02:00 PM – 04:00 PM CET

Water JPI 2018 Joint Call OPEN

 2018 Joint call

The Water JPI 2018 Joint Call on "Closing the Water Cycle Gap – Sustainable Management of Water Resources" launched within the frame of the WaterWorks2017 ERA-NET and co-funded by organisations of the Water JPI officially OPENED on 19 February 2018.

Proposals submitted under this call must address at least one of the following themes:
Enabling sustainable management of water resources,
Strengthening socio-economic approaches to water management, and
Supporting tools for sustainable integrative management of water resources.

The Water JPI 2018 Joint Call will be funded by 20 Funding Partner Organisations (FPOs) from the following 18 countries: Belgium, Brazil, Cyprus, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, South Africa, Sweden and Tunisia, and with the support of the European Commission. The total estimated budget for this call for projects is 19.3 M€.

The first step of this call will close on 24 April 2018 at 17:00 CEST, whereas the second step of this call will close on 18 September 2018 at 17 CEST. More details on the Call webpage.

Water JPI International Conference on Emerging pollutants in freshwater ecosystems in Helsinki on 6-7 June 2018


Call for Abstract Still Open! Deadline Extended!
The Academy of Finland will organise the second Water JPI Conference in Helsinki on 6–7 June 2018, back-to-back with the Final Review of the seven funded projects under the Water JPI Pilot Call. The aim of the international conference is to attract 200 experts in Emerging Pollutants to meet and discuss common challenges and share their recent discoveries and knowledge.

The call for abstracts is still open! To have your abstract considered for acceptance, please submit it by the 15th of March 2018 through the WaterJPI Conference registration system available here.

21 projects funded under the ERA-NET Cofund

WATERWORKS2015Joint call 2016

21 funded projects under the 2016 joint transnational call were presented in Stockholm (Sweden) on 6 April 2017, with a focus on Sustainable management of water resources in agriculture, forestry and freshwater aquaculture sectors by at least one of the following three sub themes:
•Increasing the efficiency and resilience of water uses;
•Monitoring and reducing soil and water pollution;
•Integrating social and economic dimensions into the sustainable management and governance of water resources.
The Water JPI 2016 Joint Call for Transnational Collaborative Research Projects was a successful joint call between the Water and Facce JPIs, with the support of the European Commission.

The Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda 2.0

The WATER JPI SRIA version 2.0 lays out research, innovation and development needs in the water sector grouped by thematic areas and priorities selected after a stakeholders’ consultation for their scientific and societal importance and structured around these five core themes: Improving Ecosystem Sustainability and Human Well-being; Developing Safe Water Systems for the Citizens; Promoting Competitiveness in the Water Industry; Implementing a Water-Wise Bio-Based Economy; Closing the Water Cycle Gap Improving Sustainable Water Resources Management. It will be implemented during the period 2016-2019.


IC4WATER plans to elaborate new principles of international transnational research and innovation cooperation through concrete joint programming. It will in particular focus on the theme of UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) related to Water challenges: Within the new post-2015 development agenda, the place of water-related issues has been further strengthened. Indeed, water is at stake not only in Goal 6 to “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”, divided into seven specific targets, but in almost all of the 17 SDGs.
