 Water JPI photo Competition

The Water Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) launch a Photo Competition and invites the research community to submit photographs illustrating the Water JPI Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda thematic areas: 

Theme 1 - Improving Ecosystem Sustainability and Human Well-being
Composed of:
Subtheme 1.1. Developing Approaches for Assessing and Optimising the Value of Ecosystem Services Nature Subtheme 1.2. Developing and Applying Ecological Engineering and Ecohydrology
Subtheme 1.3. Managing the Effects of Hydro-climatic Extreme Events

Theme 2 - Developing Safe Water Systems for Citizens
Composed of:
Subtheme 2.1. Emerging Pollutants and Emerging Risks of Established Pollutants: Assessing their Effects on Nature and Humans and their Behaviour and Opportunities for their Treatment;
Subtheme 2.2. Minimising Risks Associated with Water Infrastructures and Natural Hazards

Theme 3 - Promoting Competitiveness in the Water Industry
Composed of:
Subtheme 3.1. Developing Market-Oriented Solutions for the Water Industry;
Subtheme 3.2. Enhancing the Regulatory Framework

Theme 4 - Implementing a Water-wise Bio-based Economy
Theme 4 is composed of:
Subtheme 4.1. Improving Water Use Efficiency for a Sustainable Bio-economy Sector;
Subtheme 4.2. Reducing Soil and Water Pollution

Theme 5 - Closing the Water Cycle Gap - Improving sustainable water resource management
Theme 5 is composed of:
Subtheme 5.1. Enabling Sustainable Management of Water Resources;
Subtheme 5.2. Strengthening Socio-economic Approaches to Water Management

 In addition, the photos should consider illustrating:

  • The knowledge produced within the research developed;
  • The reinforcement of the International approach in Water Research;
  • Gender equity;
  • European Research Area;
  • Mobility;
  • Sharing of Infrastructure.

 Launch of the initiative:

  • Launch: 23 April 2018 – Deadline for submitting photos: 28 May 2018

How to enter the Competition:

  • Entry is free of charge. To participate is need to sign via the online application where is possible to submit the photographs according to the Technical requirements;
  • Applicants must accept the Terms & Conditions for the use of the photographs submitted;
  • After the online registration and to upload the photographs uploaded, the applicants must post the photographs on Instagram Water JPI profile

Technical requirements:

  • Both black and white and color photographies will be accepted (vertical or horizontal framing)
  • The photographs must be unpublished
  • The resolution of each photography must be HD quality at least 300 dpi in JPEG (.jpg) format.
  • Participants can submit 1 photography for each topic of the Water JPI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda
  • The same photography should not be proposed for more than one category
  • Each photography must not exceed 2MB
  • Photographies made entirely by computer are not allowed
  • Each photograph must have a title and report a theme number which identifies the topic:
  1. 1) Improving Ecosystem Sustainability and Human Well-being
  2. 2) Developing Safe Water Systems for Citizens
  3. 3) Promoting Competitiveness in the Water Industry
  4. 4) Implementing a Water-wise Bio-based Economy
  5. 5) Closing the Water Cycle Gap - Improving sustainable water resource management
  • e.g.: the photograph is proposed for the topic #5 – Subtheme 5.2 “Strengthening socio-economic approaches to water management” with the title “The mood of water”)

Photographies that do not conform to specifications will not be taken into consideration.

Awards:

  • All the submitted photographs will be displayed during the 2018 Water JPI Conference to be held on the 6-7 June 2018 in Helsinki (Finland)
  • All Conference attendees will be asked to vote for the three best photographs through the on Instagram Water JPI profile;
  • Evaluation criteria will include visual impact, originality, technique, creativity, message delivery capability, an emotion linked to environmental issue etc.
  • The official announcement of the TOP 3 photographs will be awarded on 6th June 2018 during the poster session
  • The Photo Contest judges will highlight some of the best entries and announce the winners
  • The Water JPI Judges’s decision is final
  • No photography will be offered for sale or any commercial use
  • No correspondence will be entered into
  • The winners, if not present at the JPI Conference, will be notified by email
