Funding Agency and Programme Manager 

 

The Agencia Estatal de Investigacion (AEI) implements government policy for research and innovation through the Secretariat of State for Research, Development and Innovation. AEI is the main governmental funding body for research and innovation, owning and managing the “State Plan for Research, Development and Innovation”. This Plan aims at promoting high-quality research in the full spectrum of scientific and technological disciplines, capacity building and career development in science and technology, supporting centres of excellence, research infrastructures, technology transfer, innovation and science dissemination.
AEI Directorate General for Scientific and Technological Research supports basic, strategic and applied research, included Water science and technology, through annual bottom-up calls. This Directorate General also promotes the internationalization of Spanish research and participates in various ERA-NETs and JPIs. AEI is representing Spain at the Water JPI Governing Board.

WaterWorks2014:
AEI coordinates Work Package 1 (Coordination and Management) and Work Package 6 (Additional Activities on Implementation).

AEI participates in the Water JPI supporting projects in close cooperation with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), which acts as a Third Party associated to the coordinator.
FECYT is a public foundation under the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, whose objective is to foster and promote science, technology and innovation in Spain.

Areas of expertise Doctor in Chemistry, Miguel Ángel Gilarranz is tenure professor at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Chemical Engineering Department). Research expertise includes water treatment, environmental catalysis and carbon materials. He is also a manager of research programmes for MINECO.
