May 18, 2016 marked the launch of the 16 research projects designed in response to the WaterWorks2014 call promoted within Horizon 2020 in support of Water JPI Joint Programming Initiative "Water challenges for a changing world".
The call was launched on March 2, 2015 in order to address Europe's water challenges through the development of research and innovation in a transnational and multidisciplinary perspective. 118 proposals were submitted of which 106 have passed the first step of evaluation. 41 of them were admitted to the final selection, following which the funds for the 16 transnational research projects have been awarded.
This publication presents the ten main goals achieved by the initiative till now.
Both the Water JPI and Horizon 2020 use public funds to achieve their goals, and enjoy a significant area of synergy in their respective research priorities. The JPI provides a channel for dialogue with the EC on future Horizon 2020 calls. Since its launch, the EC has been very supportive of the Water JPI and a non-voting member of its Governing Board.
